Misamis Union Educational Foundation, Inc. traces its beginnings to June 1936, when a visionary group of Chinese businessmen recognized the need for a school that would educate young boys and girls while preserving Chinese customs, traditions, and language. This vision led to the establishment of the Misamis Chinese School, which eventually evolved into Misamis Union Educational Foundation, Inc., serving the Chinese community of Misamis town, now Ozamiz City.
The school was led by Mr. Lim Eng Lian, the first President of the Misamis Chinese Chamber of Commerce, together with pioneering board members Mr. Ang Guan Lat, Mr. Yap Ek Huat, Mr. Ko Koc Tang, Mr. Ang Betic, and Mr. Go Bee Ah Lim. Classes began with 30 primary students in a modest two-storey wooden building at the heart of the city, bounded by Gomez, Juan Luna, Blumentritt, and Recto Streets.
Within four years, the school expanded into a complete elementary institution, offering a grade school curriculum enriched with Chinese subjects. Operations were temporarily halted during World War II, but classes resumed once peace and order were restored.
In 1950, the school adopted the Special Chinese Curriculum, with Chinese subjects taught in the morning and English subjects in the afternoon. Chinese and Filipino teachers guided students in their respective subjects, providing a bilingual education that strengthened academic foundations while nurturing cultural identity.
By 1956, the high school department was completed, producing its first graduating class of 19 students, many of whom went on to become successful professionals.
In the following years, the school grew and adapted. It acquired its present campus in Lam-an, expanded its faculty by hiring administrators and teachers from outside Ozamiz, and aligned its programs with national education reforms. In 1975, in compliance with Presidential Decree 176, the school underwent Filipinization, changing its name from Misamis Chinese School to Misamis Union High School, and eventually to Misamis Union Educational Foundation, Inc., under the direct supervision of the Department of Education (DepEd).
Recognizing the importance of early childhood education, the school introduced preschool programs in 1985, offering Playgroup, Nursery, Kindergarten I, and Kindergarten II. Purpose-built facilities, including a piano and a spacious playground, support the holistic development of young learners.
In School Year 1992–1993, the Board of Trustees, with full support from the PTA, constructed a Technology and Home Economics (TLE) building, equipped with cooking appliances and sewing machines to provide students with practical, hands-on life skills.
In response to the K to 12 educational reform, Misamis Union Educational Foundation, Inc. expanded its academic offerings with the Senior High School Program, completing the school’s basic education continuum. The program emphasizes academic readiness, practical skills, character formation, and responsible citizenship, preparing students for higher education, employment, and entrepreneurship.
On October 24, 2015, the Department of Education Regional Office granted the school a provisional permit to operate the Senior High School program, beginning with the Academic Track – Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM).
The ABM Track is designed for students interested in business-related careers and developing practical skills for the corporate and entrepreneurial world. It equips learners with knowledge and competencies in business, accounting, finance, marketing, management, and leadership, preparing them to pursue careers or further education in these fields.
The ABM Track is ideal for students who want to:
