Misamis Union Educational Foundation, Inc.

At present the school seeks to adopt changes in accordance with the times and with educational program as mandated by the Department of Education to improve the quality of education of all learners and to prepare them to become responsible leaders in the society.

The administrative staff and faculty members of the Misamis Union Educational Foundation Inc. have attended seminars and forums on K-12 Curriculum. On October 24, 2015, the Department of Education Regional Office granted the Misamis Union Educational Foundation Inc. a provisional permit to operate Senior High School program particularly the Academic Track:

The ABM Track is one of the core strands under the Senior High School K–12 curriculum (Grades 11–12). It is designed for students who are interested in business-related careers and developing practical skills for the corporate and entrepreneurial world.

This track is ideal for students who aspire to:

  • Running a business or company in the future

Brief History of the Misamis Union Educational Foundation Inc.

In June 1936, an enterprising group of businessmen saw the need of a school for Chinese boys and girls . These Chinese businessmen established the Misamis Chinese School, to Misamis Chinese and now the Misamis Union Educational Foundation Inc, with the purpose of training young boys and girls in the Chinese Community of Misamis town, now Ozamiz City on the Chinese customs, traditions and language. This dynamic group was headed by Mr. Lim Eng Lian who became the first president of the Misamis Chinese Chamber of Commerce. The pioneering members of the board were Mr. Ang Guan Lat, Mt. Yap Ek Huat, Mr. Ko Koc Tang, Mr. Ang Betic and Mr. Go Bee Ah Lim.

The first group of thirty primary students had their first scholastic activities in a wooden two-storey building located at the heart of the city bounded by Gomez Juan Luna Blumentritt and Recto Street. Four years later after its foundation Misamis Chinese School became a complete elementary school offering the grade school curriculum enriched by optimal Chinese subjects.

The onset of Word War II temporarily stopped the operation o the schoo, only to be returned after the complete restoratiom of the peace and order situation in the country.

The year 1950 saw the adoption of the Special Chinese curriculum wherein Chinese subjects were offered in the morning and English subjects in the afternoon session. There were two sets of mentors, Chinese teachers handling all Chinese subjects and Filipino teachers for English subjects.

In the course of fourteen years, the school has completed its high school department in 1956. It produced (19) students as the first successful graduating class with the majority of them becoming successful in their fields of endeavors.

In the ensuing years, the school underwent many changes including the acquisition of the school propery located at Lam-an, hiring administrators and teachers from outside Ozamiz. Filipinization of the school as promulgated by the Presidential Decree176 in 1975 change of the name of the schol from Misamis Chinese School to Misamis Union High School and to Misamis Union Educational Foundation Inc. and the direct supervision by the Department of Education (DepEd).

In 1985, preschool education was offered with the aim of preparing small children for elementary education. A building was constructed to accomodate Playgroup, Nursery, Kindergarten I and Kindergarten II. The school boasts of a piano and a spacious playground to meet the physical activities of the pupils.

Complying with DECS order on having a builing where Technology and Home Economics students can be accomodated and taught rudiments of housekeeping and management, one was constructed by the Board of Trustees in the school year 1992-1993 with the full support of the PTA. It was furnished with the cooking appliances and sewing machines were useful in the teaching of the preparation and the cooking of foods and in sewing.
